One of the favorite pastimes of Austinites is spending time in the park. Austin has many parks to choose from within the city and the surrounding area. Zilker Metropolitan Park is Austin’s premier park and is located along the shores of Lady Bird Lake, with beautiful Barton Springs running through the center.
Just walking distance away is Roy G Guerero Park. The City of Austin has big plans for Guerrero Park. The 400-acre park at 400 Grove Boulevard hosts athletes of all walks on its baseball and softball fields, volleyball courts, fitness stations, playground and two miles of trails. And there’s always the option to chill with some friends and toss a few discs on the new disc golf course that opened this summer.
Besides the Krieg and Montopolis playing fields on either side of the park, the land is still largely untouched. One of the newest additions is the hike and bike path that was added as an extension of the Town Lake trail system. Additionally, the Roy G. Guerrero Disc Golf Course opened on JUNE 9th of 2012! The course was developed with the City of Austin, Parks & Rec, and a partnership with the Waterloo Disc Golf Club. This course is now one of the newest and best championship level disc golf courses in Austin.
